Change. It’s such a controversial word. It carries both positive and negative connotations. Some people are very “go with the flow” and can adapt easily. Others try to avoid it at all cost and think they are relatively successful. The truth is, change is happening all around us everyday. Some changes we don’t even realize have happened. Maybe there is a different brand of straw in the cafeteria at work, a slight substitute in a recipe we like or a different size ice cube in your favorite drink from the drive thru. No big deal, we can adjust. But what about a speed limit change, a reset of products in the grocery store you frequent or a change in responsibilities at work. Now we are ruffling some feathers. While these are a little more obvious to us, they still aren’t changes we can’t adapt to.
But what about changes in the family? Your needy child doesn’t seem to need you as much. That’s ok, kids are supposed to grow and mature, right? Your teen is about to graduate high school and go off to college, your oldest is going to get married and move away. Again, kids are supposed to do that. With children, changes are always coming but sometimes it just hurts. And what about when someone so loved leaves this world? A flood of emotions can take us over in an instant. Anger, fear, regret, sadness, even relief, just to name a few. These are the changes we find so difficult to accept but we can find peace in knowing that change is all part of God’s plan. “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven….” Ecclesiastes 3:1-8. Even though He has changes in store for us, God himself does not change. “For I am the Lord, I do not change” Malachai 3:6
My thoughts: Change is the only true constant in life. I pray I will always have the grace to accept the changes God has planned for me.
