Times Together, Well Spent
There are some things we do together every week, every month, or every year. We want to share some of them with you!
CYC
February in the Great Smoky Mountains
CYC stands for Challenge Youth Conference which is a weekend event held in the mountains. CYC is designed around children and adolescents. It’s an incredible weekend spent learning about God. We join thousands of other christians from across Tennessee and the nation to sing praises to God, learn through lessons, skits, and comedy and spend time together. If you’ve never been, you should join in and experience CYC. It will likely strengthen you and your children’s walk with God.
The sign-up for this starts early, normally in October or November. If you are considering going talk to the youth minister or anyone who has gone before. You can also learn more by checking out: www.cyconline.com
Friends and Family Day
April
This day is all about spending time with our friends and family worshipping God. If you or your family or friends haven’t been to Chapel Hill before (or in a while) then this is such a great opportunity for you to come and meet more of the church! Friends and family day starts off with our Sunday School and adult classes often taught by a guest speaker at 9am. Worship starts at 10am and then shortly after 11 we eat and spend time together. After we eat we have an early evening study session around 1pm in place of our normal evening service. We would love to get to know you!
There are no sign-ups for this event. The meal is a potluck (add-a-dish) so bring your favorite dish if you’d like and join us on this fun day.
Our Gospel Meetings
Spring
Sunday morning through Wednesday evening of our Gospel Meeting we meet together and study God’s word with a guest speaker. Often there is a pervasive theme through the series of lessons taught. This is a great opportunity to dive deeper and learn more together. Everyone is welcome to attend. If you can only make it to one night we would love to have you!
Midsummer Bible Camp
June starting on Father’s Day
Midsummer Bible Camp (MSBC) is a week of fun! MSBC is held at Camp Leatherwood each year. Camp is open to anyone from 9 years old to the senior year of high school. Camp is where memories are made! We partner with surrounding churches including Midway Church of Christ, Browns Chapel Church of Christ, and White Bluff Church of Christ to name a few! If you are looking for an opportunity for your kids to make lifelong memories then look no further!
Vacation Bible School
Summer
Vacation Bible School is a fun time for everyone! This event is built around the kids but there are classes of all ages. The kids always have a blast learning about specific people in the Bible or about a specific concept. We’ve had VBS from Sunday to Wednesday and also as a one day event on a Saturday or Sunday. Either way this is a fun way of learning about the Bible.
Those who would like to help please see the person organizing the event to sign-up. If you are coming to attend then there is no sign-up necessary!
Bible Bowl
September Event; July/August the study begins!
Bible Bowl is hosted by Sycamore Church of Christ in Cookeville each September. A book or two of the Bible is selected each year and we study the books together. After a couple months of studying, the kids (up to 12th grade) head to TTU and gather in the basketball arena. Hundreds or even thousands of kids come to answer multiple choice questions about what they’ve learned. This is such a powerful and unique experience being together with so many people who are there to learn about God’s Word.
Children who are interested should sign-up with the youth minister or Bible Bowl Coordinator. The studying normally begins in July or August!
The Fall Retreat
October, aligning with local school districts’ fall breaks
This quick trip gives us all a weekend away to spend time together. We travel to a state park, stay in cabins, and fill the weekend with studying God’s Word, playing games, hiking, kayaking, biking, and cooking together. This event is open to anyone who wants to join in. Remove yourself from your day-to-day distractions and focus on building new relationships and strengthening old ones.
If you are interested in participating in on the Fall Retreat then be sure to sign-up! Sign-ups normally begin in early September.
Trunk or Treat
October, often held on the Sunday closest to Halloween
We get together and pop open festively outfitted trunks for all of the kids to visit and collect goodies! Kids from all around come and join in on the fun. There are no age restrictions here and all are welcome. The event starts shortly after evening services.
There are no sign-ups for this event! Bring a trunk or tailgate to give or bring a costume and bucket to get!
Thanksgiving Eve Special Service
November; the Wednesday Night before Thanksgiving
The young men of the church take a very active role in this period of worship and studying together. Songs are led, portions of scripture are read, and normally one or two short devotionals are given. This special service is a great way to focus on the things we are thankful for and center our minds back on Jesus as we get ready to celebrate Thanksgiving with our families the next day.
The men wanting to participate in the special service can talk to our youth minister to learn more.
Monthly Singing
The First Sunday Night of Each Month
We love to sing praises to God and so we make a night of it each month. We’ll sing starting at 6pm and then have a potluck (add-a-dish) once we finish singing. The songs will be lead by a number of men from young to old. We’ll sing songs that have been sung at Chapel Hill for a hundred years and we’ll learn new songs together as well! If you’ve never been to a singing or it’s been a while, we would love to have you join us.
The men and young boys who would like to lead songs should get with one of the usual song leaders right before the singing begins. If you miss the sign-up there will likely be a call for any other man who would like to lead a song.
